5G-STARDUST at the first Datacom Industry Association event

On September 29th, 5G-STARDUST was showcased onstage at the first event organised by Datacom Industry Association (DIA) in Munich, Germany. An event which focused on “Addressing Grand Challenges Through Communication Systems”, as per its title, and gathered around 80 participants at the Vorhoelzer Forum of the Technische Universität München.

Our Project Coordinator Tomaso de Cola – of German Aerospace Center (DLR) – delivered a presentation as part of the morning programme, entitled “SatCom and NTN: from Data Communication to Data Infrastructure”, detailing work conducted, and innovation generated, across several research projects, including 5G-STARDUST. De Cola walked the audience through the topic of the transition from data communication to data infrastructure via SatCom and NTN, highlighting their potential to connect underserved regions and enable critical applications.

A bit of context on DIA

The Datacom Industry Association was officially launched earlier this year, marking a major milestone in the development of Europe’s data communications ecosystem. DIA aims to bridge the gap between innovation and industry applications, driving Europe’s leadership in digital communication systems and enabling technologies for the transmission and processing of digital information across local and global networks in a secure, resilient, and efficient manner. This new association will act as the voice for Europe’s data communications sector, bringing together key industry players and experts, with initial activities which started in 2024 involving many experts from across Europe.
